Gretech To Broadcast GOM TV Starcraft Invitational League

Games will be broadcast live both in English and Korean

SEOUL, South Korea, February 5, 2008 - Gretech Corporation of South Korea announced today that it will begin XNOTE-Intel Centrino GomTV Star Invitational, a StarCraft game league made up of the world's best players sponsored by Gretech and supported by XNOTE and Intel.

Games can be watched live on the English homepage (http://gsi.gomtv.com) and previous games are also provided as Video-on-Demand. Under 'Participants,' viewers can see the profiles of the 16 participants of the league as well as the players' best performance video clips.

Nicolas Alexander Plott, a well known StarCraft commentator in the U.S., will be commenting the games live. Gretech has already successfully broadcast live in English before in November, 2007 when '21st Century Computing Conference' by Microsoft was broadcast by Gretech for four hours both in English and Korean.

For network stability, Gretech invested around 1 million USD dollars in order to support up to 40,000 concurrent viewers online and set up streaming servers in the U.S. and in Japan. In addition, in case there is an unexpected high traffic, a server maintenance team is on standby 24 hours a day 7 days a week while the league is playing.

International eSports communities are already showing a strong interest. Team Liquid, a StarCraft fan website, broadcast the group drawing live by text, and there is an opinion poll asking 'GomTV Star Invitation Group of Death.' As of this press release, group B with Jaedong, Nada, Much, and Boxer is leading the poll.

The first match starts on February 17th at 6PM Korea Standard Time.

Klazart tries too hard. His commentaries are quite hard to listen to because he tries to talk at a million miles an hour. Tasteless is by far the best commentator because he can cause the same excitement that the korean commentators give, is very knowledgable in starcraft, and aims to entertain. Which is what commentators should be doing.
Qoo)G5   [2008.02.15 08:59:56 | 68.127.209.223]
I personally think Tasteless is the best english commentator out there and after him is of course Artosis and then imo Diggity. I don't like Klazart that much, he kind of annoys me and I hate listening to him say what the PROGAMERS should do because when I hear it, it is 50% of the time wrong and 90% of the time impossible given the amount of resources they have or w/e. Don't get me wrong though, I of course appreciate him doing it for the community and all. Tasteless is a good commentator, funny and knows the game better then any of the other english commentators along side Artosis which is a big appeal especially to the players who know the game very well also. I don't think it translates as much to the average / newb player though.

Korean afternoon is in the very early morning in Europe. Korean early evening is early in the morning. Korean evening is later in the morning and near the afternoon.

6 PM in Europe is very early in the morning in Korea. Donno what you are talking about. On top of that the times on the schedule just below is GMT time. Korean time is 9 hours earlier.

Nice :) but theres a little problem ... the match will start at 6 pm Korea Standard time, but what time will be in the Europe :(( ?? Im afraid, that on this website it wont start at 6 pm Europe time :(((( Tell me plssss

Tasteless used to be one of the better SC players in the US. But he wasn't a top player.

[Bad Schedule]
This could have a very bad turnout for a very good reason. The BAD SCHEDULE. These games are all on School nights, and majority of the viewers will probably have school the next day. This is bad for North American viewers as the games will be broadcasted at around 5AM in the atlantic and 2AM in the pacific.

Not only that, those who want to stay awake in class the next morning will have trouble watching the streams live. Although I'm sure the users in Europe will have a great time enjoying the games =P. VODs it will be for most of us in the Americas I guess.

DEAR GOMTV : Please get Klazart commentating!!

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=83hP5akpTJk

This guy deserves to comment starcraft more than anyone else.

Nick "Tasteless" Plott commentating?! Ugh, NO! He has no brain and no understanding of starcraft, his commentating is terrible. Beavis and Butthead could offer more illuminating discussion. I'd rather watch Korean commentators, and I don't understand Korean.

That said, - Go group B! Lim Yo Hwan vs Lee Jae Dong...my god!
Dodong   [2008.02.07 17:37:19 | 124.106.223.81]
Great. Finally i can watch a Korean StarCraft Game with English commentary and its live straight directly from korea.. woo hooo.. This is what all Non-Korean players have been waiting for. Hopefully more tips faqs and strategy will be unleash. Watching Korean E-sports through Arirang channel specially StarCraft gives me a lot learnings. More power to you all.

Thanks a lot ... From a Pilipino fan.
