New Maps for 2013 GSL season 1

We would like to present the map pool for 2013 GSL Season 1!


*New Maps:
GSL Akilon Flats
GSL Icarus
KeSPA Neo Planet S

Revised Maps:
GSL Whirlwind SE
GSL Bel’Shir Vestige SE

Unchanged Maps:
GSL Daybreak
GSL Cloud Kingdom

Removed from the Map Pool:
GSL Entombed Valley
GSL Abyssal City
GSL Antiga Shipyard


These following 7 maps will be the battlegrounds for 2013 GSL Season 1





KeSPA Neo Planet S

-    Number of players: 2
-    Map Creator: Jacky (박근호)





Map description:

1.    The fast expansion as well as the 3rd expansion on this map are quite similar to other all other maps
       (A close fast and 3rd expansion). Although the map is mirrored, the expansions in the corners of the map
       will be hotly contested to gain an advantage.

2.    Because of the doughnut-shaped center of the map, there are many tactical routes a player can take to
       achieve the element of surprise, whether it is to take the fastest route to the enemy base or to circle all
       the way around to take the enemy army from behind.

3.    Because of the proximity of the corner expansions to the enemies own expansions, players will have to
       choose to tightly defend their corner expansion with raised platforms or take their chance on the highly
       approachable open expansions.

Extra Features:

1.    The middle of the map features the circular doughnut that was previously mentioned. This is indeed a big
       risk, big reward area to expand to. However, the high walls will be impossible for units like the Reaper
       and Colossus to scale.

“Neo” revisions from the original:

1.    The fastest route to the enemy base will take approximately 34 seconds while the original took 32 seconds.
       The darkened earth on the battlefield will now take 5 force fields to block as opposed to the 4 of the original.

2.    The gaps in the middle expansion has been changed from 1 0’clock and 7 0’clock to 5 O’clock and
       11 O’clock.

3.    The back route of the of the 3rd expansion has been placed further away so that siege tanks cannot reach
       units exiting from there.




GSL Akilon Flats

-    Number of Players: 2
-    Map Creator: Blizzard





Map Description:

1.    This map was designed for minimal action in the early game with the ability to take 6 gases early on.

2.    The center has a plethora of mineral and gas if expanded to which means that a player with too much defense
       on his mind will miss out on good positions in the late game.

3.    Fierce battles will commence as players seek to take control of the middle expansions, be prepared for
       constant dropping and harassing on the dunes of Akilon Flat.

GSL revisions to the map:

1.    Neutral supply depots have been added to the bottom of the ramp of the main base.

2.    Destructible rocks have had their health lowered to 1000 (Take that, Dustin Browder).

3.    The Xel’Naga watchtowers in the center area will lose power for the rest of the game after 7 minutes.



GSL Icarus

-    Number of Players: 2
-    Map Creator: ATTx (조의진)




Map Description:

1.    Expansions in the “Backyard” are easily accessible.

2.    There will rich minerals and gas in this backyard expansion, but the total number of minerals and gas is less
       than a regular expansion.

3.    Even though the backyard expansions are easy to get to, players must be mindful of its defense.

4.    Because there are less resources in total that are available to players in the beginning, they must choose to
       be extremely aggressive or find a new base to gather their battle funds.

5.    If the match goes on past the mid-game, players will have to battle intensely to keep a 3rd expansion intact.



GSL Whirlwind SE

-    Number of players: 4
-    Map Creator: WinparkPrime (박원웅)

SE map changes:

1.    Destructible rocks have been added to both second expansions.

2.    Since destructible rocks have been added, it is expected that players will take a quick 2nd expansions
       followed by aggressive play.



GSL  Bel’Shir Vestige SE

-    Number of players: 2
-    Map Creator: EastWindy (박우석)

SE map changes:

1.    The tower at the fast expansion where overlords can hide has been removed.

2.    Destructible rocks have been added to second expansions.

3.    The route from the second expansions to the center area is now a slope.



These maps will provide dynamic and refreshing battles in 2013 GSL Season 1. We hope you enjoy the new maps and we will see you soon!

Finally Maps with golden Minerals. I loved the games on this type of Maps in 2011. And i love backdoor expansions like on Crevasse. The maps in 2012 got pretty boring. No hidden expansion games or cool rushes like MCs 2 Carrier rush (IEM Cologne)


 


BTW. XvZ on Abyssal City sucks. Kick this stupid map plz.

Neo Planet S


I played on this map a few times as terran and holy #### you have no room to build stuff, Only that little outcrop in the main close to the natural, but when you get tank contained its so easy to get sieged from that low ground, but on the other hand its hard to GET contained on that map since there is two paths and no real arc for the contain-er, so its a killer for tvt.


 


 


Anyways, all three of these maps and some changes make it easier to take 3rd bases so maybe protosses can win some gamez lol.

I believe gold bases are cool, if done properly. In this case I agree, I think it is cool. Unlike previous maps, on this one holding the center base is hard. Not only there are no watch towers, but it is on the low groud, easily attacked from high ground unless you defense properly.

I really like that Akilon Flats has been added. I like that Whirlwind has been changed aswell as Bel'Shir Vestige. I also like that Daybreak and Cloud Kingdom still is in the map pool. I like that Antiga and Abyssal City has been removed. I am kinda ambivalent about removing Entombed Vally. But I REALLY hate that you remove bad maps like Abyssal City and replaces it with an even worse looking map Icarus, and I do not like Planet S either but it is possible to take a 3rd on planet as. So right now there is only 3 maps I like in the map pool Akilon Flats, Daybreak and Cloud Kingdom. The rest of the maps are way too hard to take a 3rd on vs Zerg. But if you are going to add Icarus, you might aswell add Crossfire again and remove Protoss completely.
