Hello to all fans of GOMTV, GSL and eSports,

WCS Korea Nationals have now reached the semi-finals. Every Korean progamer who wishes to become a national representative for Korea, regardless of their affiliation, is doing their best.

This WCS Korea Nationals tournament has not only brought great entertainment to the viewers, but also carries great meaning for GOMTV, Blizzard, the eSports Federation, KeSPA and OGN. The competition between KeSPA and the eSports Federation’s players attracted a huge interest from all over the world. This was the first collaboration of Korean e-Sports organizations who are striving for harmonious and fair competition for SCII after the joint announcement in May.

GOMTV is currently preparing the Up&Down Matches, Code A qualifiers and GSL Season 4, which will begin after the WCS Korea Nationals are finished.

As you all know, GSL has been using an Open League format, which means that anyone can participate without any entry limitations, since the Open Season. As we have announced last week, GOMTV will be holding the GSL Season 4 Code A qualifier from September 5th to September 6th. We were looking forward to hold yet another exciting tournament like the WCS, in which all Korean progamers would participate and offer entertainment to viewers around the globe. We have, however, received some unfortunate news today.

For our previous GSL Season 3 Code A qualifiers, we had inquired to KeSPA if their players would be allowed to participate and at the time, as scheduling was very difficult, KeSPA was not able to accommodate us. We also felt that many teams and players were still unprepared and concluded that we would request participation for the upcoming GSL Season 4.

Today, we have received an official response from KeSPA, stating that their players will, once again, not participate in the GSL Season 4 Code A qualifiers.

We are deeply sorry to all fans who have looked forward to seeing the Korean eSports scene work together in harmony.
Also, GOMTV would like to express their regret towards KeSPA’s reluctance to participate.

We shall, however, proceed with GSL Season 4 as planned and show our gratitude to the many gamers and the eSports Federation players who have signed up to participate.

Thank you.

Taking an interest in the politics and business of a sport that you like to watch, can have an affect on one's enjoyment of the sport itself.

I say, by all means get invloved, and seek to influence the power behind e-sports into doing what you think's best for the SC2 scene. Though always be mindful of how that involvement can serve to corrupt the purity of enjoying the game :)..

I´m fine with that situation. I think there is too much Hype around the KeSPA players. The GSL players build SC2 up and now the KeSPA players try to take the attencion. I dont want KeSPA players in my Lovely GSL, they play only for the money not from the heart, thats my opinion.

Whilst I will agree it's disappointing, all the cries of hatred over Kespa and how they have no reason are being a bit close minded.
Several reasons spring to mind, whilst their players have improved considerably over the last few months. They are still not at their strongest level.
Also, it is not an unusual consideration that Kespa want their players to appear in a Kespa held tournament (OSL) before they start appearing in other tournaments.
There are a myriad of reasonable reasons why Kespa wouldn't allow this right now, and being angry with Kespa will only make them less likely to listen.
A more interesting question would be "Will Kespa *ever* allow their players to enter the GSL?", but that isn't the question answered here.
As for GSL, it is a great tournament and I'm looking forward to GSL Season 4. It's a pity there is no Kespa entrants, but hopefully there will be in the future. GSL do not try to admonish Kespa ("GOMTV would like to express their regret towards KeSPA’s reluctance to participate." is an indirect scolding ;)), instead take the "We're sorry but we understand, hopefully next time?" and remain friendly. Maybe that gets you nowhere, but at least there isn't a bad taste between you.
Hopefully the future will see Kespa and GSL relationship improve, as that will only aid both leagues and the Korean scene in general, as well as how it's perceived  outside Korea.

Normally I would agree with such an optimistic, level-headed post.  But the key thing you are missing,  and the reason I don't quite agree with you, is that recent history between KeSPA and GOM very strongly suggests that this is a move by KeSPA to push GOM out, again.

The response from GOM may seem harsh when considered in a vaccuum, but it's entirely appropriate given a holistic context.  If you are a fan of international eSports, I encourage you to read more about the situation and the history of the organizations involved.  It is in all of our best interests, I believe, to stand firmly behind GOM on this issue.

ESF laying the smackdown on KeSPA.  As much as I am happy about this decision, I really, really hope this ends in peace and a situation where the players get to do what they want (play in GSL when they can in most cases).

I hope kespa and GOM can work things out eventually but don't let kespa try and push you guys around. In the international scene we love you guys and i think we'll stick by GOM whether kespa cooperates with you or not, if they want to hide their players then that's their loss.

I don't seem to figure out what the problem is. GSL is the best league in the world right now, and Kespa players will have to pass through Code A to qualify at the highest level. They don't want to? Too bad. I guess I'll have to watch another season of GSL with the true champs...

Its not theyre busy with something else

if you have followed broow war scene you do know that Kespa pulled away players from Gom classic

and Gom had no choice but to close the league. Its utter bullshiX theyre busy with something else,

its just their way of backstabbing Gom and showing attitude of "GTFO Im the boss here "   Honestly

when the ceremony among gom, kespa and blizzard were announced i was still skeptical of kespa's

true colours given what they did in the past.

I'm no expert on the politics of eSports and Kespa etc.  I'm a relatively new eSports fan, that is hooked on GSL and MarineKingPrime.  But from my perspective, KeSPA is an extremely stubborn and shortsighted organization that reeks of arrogance.  Their leadership has simply failed their players which started when they lost the negotiations with Blizzard for SC2.  GSL has attracted a significant marketshare of eSports viewers ACROSS THE GLOBE, while Kespa continues to live in the past.  So go ahead Kespa, and sit back and masturbate to your 2001-2008 "glory years" while you breast feed on the notion that your relevance isn't fading every time you make decisions like this.

Very disappointing news. The WCS games have been really fun to watch. I hope we can see more and I will continue to support GOM for their efforts.

While I understand the desicion from Kespa as an organization, because most of their players haven't reached the skill in SC2 they showed in SC:BW. However, from the perspective of growing eSports and having open competition, I simply cannot agree with this.

Kespa turns the opportunity down to make their players more known to the public which watches GSL and is unable to profit from the role of the underdog. Furthermore, the only way to grow esports is to send your best players to the best tournaments out there and surely GSL is at this moment the top tournament in the world.

I simply hope that they will send their professional players to GSL Season 5, I find myself once again losing respect for the organization that is Kespa.

By the way, I really think GomTV handles this well, by not making this a bigger deal than it is and just notifying us about this before anyone has purchased tickets for the next season. Really well done.

This is a big disappointment. Only paying for GSL until Korea sorts it's act out.
