Dear GOMTV.net users,

We would like to inform you of a change to the brackets for WCS Korea Nationals Loser’s Bracket Round 1.

LG-IM_Mvp and SK_MC have forfeited their matches for personal reasons. Both players have properly informed league administration in time. The matches will therefore be handled as walkovers and their opponents LG-IM_Happy and StarTale_Hack will automatically advance to Loser’s Bracket Round 2.

Thank you

i would hope so.  The whole point of the tournement was to represent your country.  Everything else is just an afterthought and/or an excuse for charging people to watch.

Alive has already announced that he will also forfeit his place in the tournament to go to MLG, Hero will almost certainly as well but hasn't explicitly said so yet. Will people who walk away from the WCS after reaching the top 10 still be awarded a WCS Asia slot despite abandoning the tournament to chase foreign cash?

Thanks for the answer Snowbird, I can't blame them anymore if their trip to Cologne was planned long ago ^^

GOM on the other hand should have been clear on the reason of their forfeit (it is by no mean "personal reasons")

BTW Snowbird, are you korean ?

What do the koreans think? I would assume that many of them also feel disrespected because of mc and mvp dropping out of the tournament. Koreans seem to have a very strict code when it comes to tournament etiquette.

I don't check Korean forums as much as I check English ones, but I didn't seem to me like it was a huge deal in the Korean community.

This is my view (not necessarily GOM's view):
They knew that there will be a schedule problem if they advanced further in the tournament, that's why dropping out early was the respectful and right thing to do. Because if they had advanced further and then dropped out, they'd have robbed another player of their chances.
Their trip to IEM Cologne had already been planned long in advance and if they had stayed in the WB of WCS Korea there wouldn't have been a problem, but since they dropped to the LB there was nothing that could be done.
It is certainly unfortunate that things turned out how they did, but I don't think blame can be put on anyone here.

First I'd like to say that MVP and MC are 2 of my favorite players, MVP is simply the best player and I love MC's antics.
now I find their forfeits "for personal reasons" utterly disrespectful both to GOM and the fans/viewers. It shows their lack of integrity and professionalism. They should be punished for that, I'd LOVE to see them down to code A or something like that.

Snowbird can you tell us the view of GOM on the matter ? (and don't tell me they had good "personnal reasons" like their grandmother died or they had flu ..)

I'm really disappointed by both of them. If they knew, that they would prefer to go to IEM, then they should've rejected the invite from the start and give other players the chance to participate (I think Taeja or Byun would've been very happy to get a chance to play here...). This behaviour is very selfish. If it's not against the rules, then there is nothing to be done by GOM. But this does not make the situation better at all. -_-

To be honest if MVP and MC won their first match they wouldn't have the scheduling issue so this is what they were banking on

Not even mentioning Tastosis travelling all around the world and casting WCS Oceania (LOLWUT??) instead of WCS Korea..

I don't see GOM's fault here at all. They put in a lot of prize money and put up their shedule way in advance...
Players just need to learn, that they have to choose the tournaments they want to participate in. No player will be able to compete in every tournament out there. But you should do it before the tournament starts and not speculate on specific results or circumstances where your schedule may allow to play in it.
I would love to see both of them relegated to Code A for this, but their will be no foundation in the rules for this to happen, so nothing will happen.
And yeah "personal reasons". The personal reason to attend another tournament, quite funny. Maybe they hope most of the korean audience doesn't know about IEM...

GOM needs to have some binding contracts with SC2 teams or players individually. For example, KeSPA players can't do anything without explicit KeSPA permission.

I really liked the MLG/GSL exchange program last year, which allowed early-eliminated code S players to attend MLG. Nowadays GSL player attendance to foreign events is not controlled in any way - and this hurts the quality of GSL.

Obviously, GOM needs to offer top GSL players something in exchange for easy money from foreign tournaments. That would require bringing in additional sponsors.

I guess that they didn't expect to end up in the loosers bracket so quickly - and that created a scheduling confilct with IEM. So they had to chose: either to fight hard from the loosers bracket with the best players in the world for the few sports in WCS for Korea, or go get some easy money by crushing foreign players at IEM.
I'm very disappointed that GOM is not able to keep best players playing in his tournaments. Not only this MC/MVP case - best players are regularly not playing in GSTL because they are traveling to some tournaments overseas or even showmatches. Or playing right from the plane being tired and jetlaged, like Seed yesterday.

You guya don't even know what their "personal reasons" even are.  It could be, as you are so quick to assume, that they don't give a sh*t and forfeited.

Or maybe it could be a very serious personal matter that none of you know anything about.  Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions and throw out accusations.   MVP and MC are great players.  You don't have to like them, but show them the respect they deserve for earning their success.

They're going to IEM, that's why they left. It's a well-known undisputable fact.

I agree, it's an abuse in privileges. These players were lucky enough to get a seed into the tournament in the first place, and now that they have hit a wall in it, they are ducking out and escaping to go play in a foreign tournmanet. There are players who were not as lucky or given the circumstances to be successful in qualifying for this tournament, and would claw at any chance to play in it. (even the loser's bracket)

It really goes to show how much hunger these two players have, they don't have much left, instead they only care about money and will sacrifice their own principles to do so. The MVP of 2011 is a lot different from the MVP of now. Instead of dealing with defeat like a man, both these players are taking the coward's way out and not fufilling their obligations as Korean Pro-Gamers. They are going to run away to IEM, where they might make money, but they will lose my support. If you are playing for tournament in Korea, (like the GSL) you better fucking play in it, there are B teamers who would kill for an opportunity like such and not fufilling your obligations as Pro-Gamer is the biggest disrespect you could show to anybody.

I hope Gom does something about this, this is unacceptable.
