2012.08.21 It's time to upgrade to 1080p; or at least fix the VOD codec for true 720p.
Edit: I decided to contact GOMTV directly regarding the VOD quality. Here is the response- "Dear user,
We are aware of the fact that many of our users are hoping for an improvement to the VODs quality of our English service.
We are looking into options but are not capable of upgrading to 1080p in the near future.
We will continue to look into the matter and hope to be able to improve the quality in the future.
Thanks for your understanding."
Overall a pretty straight forward half-assed response. What's more depressing is that they don't have the capabilities for the future? Extremely amateur in my honest opinion.
I won't be renewing my yearly ad-free subscriptions from this point on. With Tastosis casting for other venues often, I find more production value now in other areas.
I hope for the sake of e-sports, GOM wakes up. |

- 2012.09.10 I have spent over $400 on GomTV. I have been a faithful customer - albeit an optimistic customer. For the last 12 months at least, I have been hoping that the service quality would improve - especially for the astronomically high pricetag GomTV has attached. But alas, the haven't so I have cancelled my subscription and will be writing to GomTV expressing my concerns with their service.
It's not only bad business practice to simply not address these issues (read: blatantly ignoring them), but it's insulting too.
I am fully aware of the capabilities and bandwidth requirements for streaming high quality content and there is no real reason GomTV cannot increase the quality. Okay, it's not as simple as that, but it is definitely an achievable goal.
Now, from a business point of view, increasing the stream quality and listening to and responding to your foreign fanbase will ultimately benefit the company. More subscribers == more revenue. There's an old saying - You have to spend money to make money. Just take a look at MLG. Spectators made it clear that they were not happy with their service and they accomodated them. With the increase in customer base (amongst other factors), they were able to make an entire event absolutely free. That type of gesture had such a positive impact on their reputation.
If you can't meet the customer's requests, consider lowering the cost of the service. Paying a premium for such a low quality stream (we are excluding the production here - just the quality of the stream) is insulting to me (which is why I have ceased my subscription with GomTV). Now, reducing the cost of the substandard stream quality is entirely achievable.
I'll come back in six months to see if they have replied. I won't hold my breath though. |

- 2012.09.10 I didnt check the stream quality before buying my ticket (I couldnt imagine a HQ stream lower than 720p). They should not call it "High Quality" stream because it is not !! Is it so hard to stream 720p ? So many FREE streams can do it, I just dont get it. |

- 2012.09.10 Have to bump this to the top... I won't be renewing my yearly subscription until they at LEAST get a 720p quality stream. Hell...anything better than the shit they have right now.
LOOK at the "HQ VODS" they are awful compared to any other stream. I pay 100+ for this and its half the quality of most free streams.

- 2012.08.23 This whole problem, along with a few other reasons is why I won't be purchasing tickets from GOMTV anymore. I can watch IPL, MLG, Dreamhack, IEM, and many others for free in a quality that matches or is better than GSL. Also considering what kind of bandwidth exists in Korea I find it hard to believe they can't put out this quality. I've supported the site for as long as I could stand it, but this bit rate, along with Tastosis lack of casting hurts me deeply, and other small issues. It was nice GOM. I'll be back when your quality is on par with the FREE tournaments. |

- 2012.08.23 Absolute bullshit that they are not sorting out the quality I was assuming that this would improve in the future. The customer service from GOM is appalling, but, they seem to be able to take money off people no problems.
When you eventually get around to sorting out the stream quality and start to show some respect for your customers do you think that you could also enact the premium features I paid for on my upgraded ticket I bought 2 days ago and am still waiting on. . . I am very very unhappy with GOM service. Is this a Korean thing to treat customers like crap? |

Some have argued that uploading to external countries from Korea is expensive. Even if this was true, (which it's not, we see Koreans streaming 24/7 on twitch in high res), can't GOM afford it? They give away 50 G's every month to the champion, plus put on these extravagant shows, have voice actors, news reporters, dual streaming etc. To me this answer just seems like hocus pocus bullshit--GOM has big bucks.
Stop with the lame excuses GOM, and step your game up!! As you can see people are becoming disenfranchised with low quality, and soon your profits will suffer. Maybe then you will take notice... doubt it. |
