2012.06.01 Dear GOMTV.net users, After an exciting first week of GSTL Season 2, we are now ready to get started with the hardest league in the world, GSL Season 3 Code S. We're all still a bit shaken from the amazing Grand Finals of last season, but our 32 players are already preparing to show their best and we're looking forward to even better games and are expecting a new hero to emerge soon. This season's Code S will be the the most balanced competition in terms of race distribution with 13 Terrans, 10 Protoss and 9 Zerg. We hope everyone is looking forward to it as much as we do! Our 32 players have been placed in to certain tiers according to their accumulated GSL points and were then evenly and randomly placed into 8 groups of 4. For details on the system you may read here. This is the player tier list for GSL Season 3: ThorZaiN as well as viOLet have received Code S seeds for their outstanding results in international tournaments. ThorZaiN has once again proven his skill by winning the last DreamHack and viOLet seems to be in his prime right now, placing first in the MLG Spring Arena 2 in addition to several other great showings in other tournaments. Last season's champion Mvp picked SuHoSin for his group, our runner-up Squirtle picked Thorzain into his group. I was thinking this original post was prior to GSL season 3 starting, but actually it was after the Up/Down matches, which have to occur before the Code S pool is determined. This original post was to describe the mechanism used to distribute the 32 players into groups. Got it now. Thanks. I'm still new to this eSports stuff, but MY GOD I LOVE the production quality of the GSL and the quality of play. MarineKing is my favorite player, but he is in a tough group! :(

If so, that makes sense, but then the tournament format graphic is not correct anymore. What am I missing here? You missed the Up & Down matches, which were played on May 21-25. MKP was in the final group with AcE, MMA, BBoongBBoong, Heart and Killer, and he went 4-1 to advance to Code S (along with AcE, who was the only player to beat him).

The Round of 32 has no select ion ceremony, as only two of the placements are select ed by the players (for this season, Mvp picking SuHoSin and Squirtle picking ThorZaIN). The rest are random. I guess it might be somewhat entertaining to see the Ro32 groups select ed in a show like the FIFA World Cup Finals group draw, but apparently, it's not worth the effort for GOM to produce that. The Round of 16 will have the usual group nomination ceremony.
