2011.07.06 Dear GOMTV.net users, it has been a long tradition for Korean eSports fans to cheer for their favorite players or teams with so-called 'cheerfuls'. You may now make your own cheerfuls to cheer for your favorite GSTL team or GSL player and have it shown on the broadcast or otherwise incorporated in the show! What is a cheerful? The word 'cheerful' is a funny result of mispronunciations and several back and forth translations of different words from different languages. Koreans use the word 'placard', which is originally a French word, to describe a banner. The Korean way of pronouncing 'placard' is something like 'poollaekadeu'. Now since Koreans like to incorporate English words and also like to shorten things, they came up with a word that is pronounced 'cheerpooll', short for 'to cheer' and 'placard', describing a banner used to cheer for someone. This made-up Korean word was then (wrongly) romanized back to English and mysteriously became known as 'cheerful'. How do cheerfuls look like? Here are a few examples of cheerfuls made by fans at our live events that were featured in on of our broadcasts. Remember though that these are only examples. You may be creative and create anything you like! How can I participate? You may use the following template as your basic background: click here click here for smaller version Write any message you like to your favorite team or player to cheer them on. You may use your computer to create a cheerful or draw/write something by hand and scan it. Printing the template and then scanning it again would be an option, too. Don't be intimitated if you can't draw that well, a witty, funny or heartfelt message without a drawing is just as good. The most important thing to us is to see that you have put in some effort, thus self-drawn cheerfuls are preferred! Please upload your cheerfuls in this forum thread (do not send us links, but actually upload them please). File has to be in JPG format, max file size is 2MB. Please also include your name (or ID) and location. We will then pick the best ones and have them either shown on the live broadcast or otherwise incorporated in our show! If you have other creative ideas for encouragement other than a cheerful, please let us know and we'll see if it's doable. Note: Please refrain from using abusive, explicit or hurtful language.
