The revamped Global Starleagues GSL and GSTL have arrived
We have received a tremendous amount of constructive feedback over the past months and are very thankful for that. Especially our Team League, the GSTL, has had a very positive response from the fans that went beyond our expectations. We have therefore decided to change our format to make the GSL and GSTL even more exciting for the fans and also more competitive yet fair for the players.
Starcraft II five days+ a week - you will now be able to enjoy GSL and GSTL at the same time with upgraded HQ stream quality!
1 day of Code A, 2 days of Code S and 2 days of GSTL. How cool is that? And the best thing is, we’re already starting this week! Let’s take a look at the new GSTL:
The all new GSTL – Season 1 starting June 23rd 2011
GSTL stands for Global Starcraft II Teamleague. Our goal for the GSTL is to provide a teamleague with the best players on the best teams in the world. We are very happy to welcome FXOpen e-Sports as the first non-Korean team in the upcoming GSTL Season 1. Additionally, the Teamliquid Starleague 3 finalists and top MLG Columbus finishers Thorzain and Naniwa* will be joining forces with team WeMadeFOX to form team F.United and participate in the upcoming GSTL. *1 additional player will be announced in the future.
The three GSTLs we’ve had so far have produced many memorable games. There was only one downside, the tournaments were just too short! We listened to the fans’ demands and have completely revamped the format for the upcoming GSTL. Instead of 8 teams and a 4 day tournament, we will now have a full-fledged league over 3 months with a group stage, play-offs and 12 participating teams. We are all looking forward to seeing this league played out and are hoping for just as epic matches as in our previous GSTLs.
The Format
- GSTL will be broadcasted twice a week on Thursday and Friday
- 12 teams will be participating. The league will be divided into two groups
- Groups that play on Thursdays will be in the Jupiter league and groups that play on Fridays will be in the Venus league. *In Korea, Thursday is called the day of Jupiter and Friday is called the day of Venus.
- The Jupiter League includes: SlayerS, TSL, oGs, MVP, PRIME, F.United
- The Venus League includes: IM, StarTale, fOu, Zenex, NS, FXOpen e-Sports
- Each team will play every team of its group once, this process will take 10 weeks.
- This group stage will be called the “Pennant Race”
- Once the Pennant Race is over, the top 3 teams from each group will advance to the Play-offs
- Ranking will be decided using the following factors in order: Number of Wins -> Number of Set Losses -> If two teams have same number of wins and set losses, the winner of the two from the pennant race match will receive a higher ranking -> Number of Warnings Received
- The Pennant Race will be best Bo7, Play-offs and finals Bo9. “King of the hill”-type format.
- The Play-offs will be played out as follows:
The Prizes
- 1st: 30,000,000KRW (~20,000EUR, 28,000USD)
